City of Angel
Sompop Budtarad
21 April - 25 May 2008

The relation between goddess and the places that they exist is the inspiration for this collection of artworks. They myth about faith in things beyond sight is connected to our ancestor’s belief. They named the city as if it is the sacred and places on heaven.
According to Sompop, “City of Angel” and “Krung Thep” is different in terms of the word form or the position of words while its true meaning might be embedded with the level of perception and the context. To him, these two homonym words have connotation of the two connected things which are belief and time. They are not obvious as a story but his artworks leave questions to the viewers: in the midst of current change, what is lost and what still remains? How is the word “City of Angel” different or connected to “Krung Thep”? The answers to these questions might be leading us to the true meaning of these words and the ideal land of goodness and righteousness combined into Sompop’s fine art.
